This was one of my favorite songs to sing along with, when I was a kid. Learning the lyrics to this song was easy enough, so that my cousins and I, could bust out and start singing the song, without the music playing on the radio.
I hope that you will enjoy listening to this song, because it is from a time, when I was young enough to not be worried about the stresses, from a grown ups point of view, during that time period.

Popcorn
How many people out there, remember this song from the early 70's? When I first heard this song, I thought that it sounded cool, because at that time, there wasn't very many songs that used this kind of music, especially when it was a song without words.
The music style is called synthpop. This song became the first primarily electronic-based piece of music to reach the American popular music charts. It peaked at #9 on the billboard pop charts in 1972.
What do you think about this song? Does it make you feel like you need to pop some microwave popcorn?

Rocket Man
Rocket Man is one of my favorite Elton John songs. When I was in junior high Chorus, this song was one of the songs we chose to sing, during the school's annual spring concert. At that time, I could hit the high notes fairly easily, but when that school year ended, I made a bad decision to start smoking, and by the time the new school year began in September, I could no longer hit the high notes, as easily, so needless to say, I decided not to do the Chorus thing anymore.
On a brighter note, I haven't smoked a cigarette, since I quit cold turkey in 1984, on Smoke Enders day. As far as being able to hit the high notes again, I can, but it's just not the same :(
I chose this video because it sounded the closest to the studio version of this song. Enjoy :)

Brass In Pocket
I was heading toward my 18th birthday, when this Pretenders song came out. I thought that it was a cool song because it was a new sound, and I believe that it helped toward introducing me to alternative music. Of course I didn't make the connection until much later. I instead thought at that time that it had kind of a pop sound, with a bit of an edge to it.
I also would like to mention that it saddened me, when I found out, that two of the original members of The Pretenders, had died back in the 80's, due to drug overdoses, at the young ages of 25 and 30.
I hope that you will check out this video because Chrissie Hynde has a unique sounding voice, which is alto/tenor, sort of. Plus whenever I hear this song, it makes me want to bust out and start singing along with it.

Magnet and Steel
This song was a popular song in 1978. It has a certain romantic charm to it. This song was inspired by Stevie Nicks.
I found a 1978 video of this song, and also a more recent video of it, so I thought that I would post both of them for you to watch and enjoy.

Dr Hook And The Medicine Show
I remember when I first heard Dr Hook on the radio, when I was a teen. I immediately thought that they were very entertaining, and that they were definitely Stoners, but don't quote me on this, because regardless of how cool and fun they were, when they got together and sang for an audience, that doesn't necessarily mean that they were smoking a joint, before they got up on the stage, to perform their songs.
I am including two videos because I was torn between two of their songs, which I thought were really cool sounding.
The first video is 'Cover of the Rolling Stone', and the second video is 'Sylvia's Mother'. Enjoy.
Were you a fan of this band? If so, What is your favorite song, or songs?

Stand Tall
I remember when I first heard this song on the radio. I thought that it was one of Burton Cumming's best songs. It is a powerful ballad type song, which is apparently about a failed relationship. What the song seems to be saying, is that it is better to stand tall than to fall into some kind of violent state, over a failed relationship.
