Lola

When I first heard the song 'Lola' by the Kinks it seemed obvious to me that Lola was really a transvestite, but I still thought that the song sounded cool and I also like to sing along whenever I hear it play.

This song was released in June 1970 and made it to #9 on the U.S. Billboard top 100 chart, and went to #2 on the UK Singles chart. It did make it to #1 on the Dutch, Italian, Irish, and the New Zealand Charts.

This version of the song was from a 70's show called Top of the Pops.

Beach Baby

In the summer of 1974 John Carter and Gillian Shakespeare wrote the song "Beach Baby." The song was recorded by a band named 'The First Class' which peaked at #4 on the U.S. top 40 charts on October 5th.

When I first heard this song I thought that it sounded cool. I liked to sing along with it even though I wasn't sure what the words were in a certain verse, but with the help of a song lyric site, I now know that the words are: "The sun-tanned crew-cut all-American male."

It made me wonder how many other people had no clue about what that verse was. I just made up my own words, which of course, was totally off. I was singing something about an American mile.

I must confess to you that there were other verses that didn't quite sound like the real lyrics sounded, so of course my version of the song was a bit off.

Anywho ... Here is the video for you to watch and to sing along with if you feel the need to do so, but before you do you might want to find the 'real' lyrics on the web, unless of course, you have no problem understanding what they are singing during certain parts of this song.

Tie Your Mother Down

I have always been a big fan of the band 'Queen' since I first heard their songs. Freddie Mercury's voice sounded so awesome to me that I deemed him as the greatest male vocalist of all time.

The song "Tie Your Mother Down" is one of Queens songs that has a rocking beat and makes you want to get up and dance to it when you hear it play.

I am saddened that we had to lose Freddie to a man made disease which tragically was spread around the globe by an airline pilot in the 80's.

Gotta Keep A Runnin

The band 'The Godz' is a band from Columbus Ohio that was formed in 1976. Soon there was a problem because the band members unknowingly named their band 'The Godz' before they found out that there was already a band from New York with the same name. Because of this unseen problem there was supposedly a monetary settlement between the two bands, so that this Godz band wouldn't need to change their band name to something else.

I was unable to find any information about whether or not the song 'Gotta Keep A Runnin' ever made a showing on the Billboard Charts.

Run Joey Run

The song 'Run Joey Run' is a song about a teenage girl getting pregnant by her boyfriend Joey, which ended in tragedy.

You may find the lyrics unbelievable in this day and age, but believe it or not, this scenario was closer to being true back in the day when fathers took teenage pregnancy a lot more seriously.

This song was popular enough to make it to #5 on the U.S. billboard charts in 1975.

Over The Hills And Far Away

The song 'Over The Hills And Far Away' is one of my favorite songs sang by the Led Zeppelin band.

This song is on their 1973 'Houses of the holy' album. Even though this song only made it to #51 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, it is still a memorable song.

Due to a possible virus issue involving sites with song lyrics on them I will not be including song lyrics anymore. I apologize to those of you who look forward to it.

I also apologize for the commercial at the beginning of the video.

Disco Inferno

Music from the 70's was mostly cool sounding ... and then Disco music was added to the mix.

The song Disco Inferno made its debut in 1976 and was one of the cooler sounding Disco songs out there, and that is probably why I like this song.

You can find this song on the 'Saturday Night Fever' album, which came out in 1977. This song became successful in 1978 because of its exposure on that album.

Here is the video for you to enjoy.

Round About

The song 'Round About' is one of my favorite songs by the band 'YES'. The music is truly amazing.

This song peaked at #13 on the billboard 100 charts in 1972. The full length version is 8:29 minutes long, but the single version that was sold in stores and played on most radio stations was cut down to 3:27 minutes.

The lyrics:

I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out
I spend the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and in and out the valley

The music dance and sing
They make the children really ring
I spend the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and in and out the valley

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there
One mile over we'll be there and we'll see you
Ten true summers we'll be there and laughing too
Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be there with you

I will remember you
Your silhouette will charge the view
Of distance atmosphere
Call it morning driving thru the sound and even in the valley

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there
One mile over we'll be there and we'll see you
Ten true summers we'll be there and laughing too
Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be there with you

Along the drifting cloud the eagle searching down on the land
Catching the swirling wind the sailor sees the rim of the land
The eagle's dancing wings create as weather spins out of hand

Go closer hold the land feel partly no more than grains of sand
We stand to lose all time a thousand answers by in our hand
Next to your deeper fears we stand surrounded by a million years

I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out
I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there
Twenty four before my love and I'll be there

I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out
You spend the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and in and out the valley

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there
One mile over we'll be there and we'll see you
Ten true summers we'll be there and laughing too
Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be there with you

Because The Night

The song "Because The Night" was written by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen. It climbed to #13 on the billboard hit 100 charts in 1978.

This song is on an album titled "Easter", which is among a trio of albums that were done by the Patti Smith Group.

Patti Smith's music Genre is considered to be 'Punk Rock'.

These are the lyrics so that you can sing along with the video:

Take me now, baby, here as I am
Hold me close, n' try n' understand
Desire is hunger is the fire I breathe
Love is a banquet on which we feed

C'mon now, try n' understand
The way I feel under your command
Take my hand, as the sun descends
They can't hurt ya now, can't hurt ya now, can't hurt ya now...

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to lust
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

Have I doubt, baby, when I'm alone
Love is a ring, on the telephone
Love is an angel disguised as lust
Here in our bed 'til the morning comes

C'mon now, try n' understand

The way I feel under your command
Take my hand, as the sun descends
They can't hurt ya now, can't hurt ya now, can't hurt ya now...

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to lust
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

With love we sleep, with doubt the vicious cycle turns, n' burns
Without you oh I cannot live, forgive the yearnin' burnin'
I believe it's time, too real to feel, so take me now, take me now, take me now...

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to lust
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

Hold Your Head Up

The band Argent came out with a song in the early 70's, which was the song, 'Hold your head up'.

Keyboardist Rod Argent founded this band in 1968. Rod was formally from the band 'The Zombies'.

This song made it to #5 on the U.S. billboard charts in 1972. It was written by Rod Argent and Chris White.

These are the lyrics:

And if it's bad
Don't let it get you down, you can take it
And if it hurts
Don't let them see you cry, you can make it

Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head high

And if they stare
Just let them burn their eyes on you moving
And if they shout
Don't let it change a thing that you're doing

Hold your head up, hold your head up
Hold your head up, hold your head high

Timothy ... A Song About Cannibalism

When I was a preteen I remember a song that I heard on the radio, which was kind of cool and gross at the same time.

The song "Timothy" was the song. It was written by Rupert Holmes, with the intention of it getting banned from air play.

This song only made it to #17 on the U.S. Billboard Charts back in 1971. The song was about 3 miners getting trapped in a mine because it collapses and then when they are finally rescued, there are only 2 miners.

When you listen to the song you will find out what happened to the third miner named Timothy

No Matter What

The band Badfinger came out with some really good songs during the early 70's. The song, 'No Matter What', was one of them.

The tragedy of the suicidal deaths of two of the former band members, who were also the lead vocalists, came as a shock to many, who weren't aware of the troublesome things that those two band members had been experiencing, with the manager of the record labels.

I liked this song because I thought that it was a cool love song, which was a bit rocking for a love song, if that makes any sense.

These are the lyrics, just in case you want to sing along with the video:

No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl with you
No matter what you do
I will always be around
Won't you tell me what you found girl, oh girl won't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter where you go
There will always be a place
Can't you see in my face girl, oh girl don't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you

Shooting Star

I wasn't the biggest fan of the band 'Bad Company', but I did like some of their songs.
I liked their song 'Shooting Star' because of the lyrics. It is a song for dreamers. I was once a dreamer.
This video includes the lyrics.
