"Roxanne ... You don't have to put on the red light ..."

These song lyrics are from a cool daring song that was released for air play in 1978, but this  song didn't rocket the band 'The Police' into stardom until it was re-released in 1979.

This song was played on radio stations in upstate NY, but it was banned from air play in the UK because of the lyrics being about a prostitute... Sad, but true.

I hope that you will enjoy this version of the song. It differs a little bit from the recorded version, but I thought that it still sounded cool.

Over The Hills And Far Away

The song 'Over The Hills And Far Away' is one of my favorite songs sang by the Led Zeppelin band.

This song is on their 1973 'Houses of the holy' album. Even though this song only made it to #51 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, it is still a memorable song.

Due to a possible virus issue involving sites with song lyrics on them I will not be including song lyrics anymore. I apologize to those of you who look forward to it.

Shooting Star

I wasn't the biggest fan of the band 'Bad Company', but I did like some of their songs.
I liked their song 'Shooting Star' because of the lyrics. It is a song for dreamers. I was once a dreamer.

One Tin Soldier

When I was a teenager a movie came out that I thought was very memorable because it was a story about standing up for what you believe in. The movie is called, 'The legend of Billy Jack'.
The song 'One tin soldier' was sang by the band Coven, as a theme song for the Billy Jack movie.
The lyrics are included in the video. Feel free to sing along with the video :) I am betting that you have a very nice singing voice, whether your family thinks so, or not ;)

Ebony Eyes

I remember hearing this song on the radio the year that I was going to turn 16. At that time I did not know that Bob Welch was a band member of Fleetwood Mac, before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had joined the band.

I think that this song has very cool sounding music to go with the quirky lyrics, which, in my book, is usually a very good combination.

When I found this song on the web and played it, it was like a rush of memories, from my teen years had started flooding into my head, some were good, and some were not so good LOL, but none the less, this song, as well as many others, from that time period, seem to always have the power to take me back to how I was feeling, during that time in my life.

Back in the 70's, I had a small stereo type record player that also had an AM & FM radio. I would sometimes take it outside on my porch, which was on the second floor, and I would play records, while I was hanging out with a bunch of my friends.

We had no computers, no portable electronic gadgets, and no video game systems to play with. Yeah, I know that the younger generation can't imagine what it would be like to not have any of these play things, and they are probably thinking,'how boring that must have been."

Stand Tall

I remember when I first heard this song on the radio. I thought that it was one of Burton Cumming's best songs. It is a powerful ballad type song, which is apparently about a failed relationship. What the song seems to be saying, is that it is better to stand tall than to fall into some kind of violent state, over a failed relationship.

The song 'Imagine', sang by John Lennon, is a favorite song of mine because it is a song about living in a peaceful world, without wars, and nothing else to fight about.
It is also a song, which helps to make me feel a calmness inside, whenever I sit down and listen to it.

Making Plans For Nigel

When I first heard this song on chez (shay) 106, I really liked it a lot. So much so, that I almost named my first child Nigel, but my sensible dad (RIP) told me, that there would be, no way in hell, he would want to have a grandson named Nigel, so of course, I changed my mind, and I ended up naming him Matthew.

Needless to say my son is glad that my dad intervened. He likes the other name a lot better.

I never saw the video, for this song, until I found it on the net for this blog, so I haven't really formed any kind of opinion about it. I did however, think that the song was about a crazy person living in a mental institution. It looks like I got that right :)

Second Hand News. A Song Inspired By A Break Up

I was lucky enough to have the 'Rumors' album because I had gotten it as a xmas present from one of my teenage crushes, who in return, received a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream from me. I know, wild huh? Especially, since I was only 15 1/2, at that time, but with all that aside, I played this album a lot, and this song was one of my favorite songs on that album.

The song, "Second Hand News," was inspired by the break up of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The video footage is a bit off because it was filmed in 1978 with a camera, that is the total opposite of our digital cameras. 

Regardless of the video timing being off be sure to watch this video all the way to the end, so that you can hear what Stevie says about Lindsey. It kind of sounds like what she says is sad, but her words also have a touch of sweetness.

Is this song cool or what?

When the first Steve Miller Band album came out, me and my friends played it to death. When I heard the song Swing town, I was hooked. Later on I talked to another friend, who had went to a concert to see them, and he said that he ended up walking out. Apparently the Steve Miller Band only sounded good on the album.
I know that there are probably more bands out there that have the same problem, but they must have better sound guys to help them to compensate for this problem.

Anyways, the video that I chose is the recording from the studio and not a live performance, because when I listened to the live recording, it really did suck!
