Brass In Pocket

I was heading toward my 18th birthday, when this Pretenders song came out. I thought that it was a cool song because it was a new sound, and I believe that it helped toward introducing me to alternative music. Of course I didn't make the connection until much later. I instead thought at that time that it had kind of a pop sound, with a bit of an edge to it.
I also would like to mention that it saddened me, when I found out, that two of the original members of The Pretenders, had died back in the 80's, due to drug overdoses, at the young ages of 25 and 30.
I hope that you will check out this video because Chrissie Hynde has a unique sounding voice, which is alto/tenor, sort of. Plus whenever I hear this song, it makes me want to bust out and start singing along with it.

Magnet and Steel

This song was a popular song in 1978. It has a certain romantic charm to it. This song was inspired by Stevie Nicks.
I found a 1978 video of this song, and also a more recent video of it, so I thought that I would post both of them for you to watch and enjoy.

Dr Hook And The Medicine Show

I remember when I first heard Dr Hook on the radio, when I was a teen. I immediately thought that they were very entertaining, and that they were definitely Stoners, but don't quote me on this, because regardless of how cool and fun they were, when they got together and sang for an audience, that doesn't necessarily mean that they were smoking a joint, before they got up on the stage, to perform their songs.
I am including two videos because I was torn between two of their songs, which I thought were really cool sounding.
The first video is 'Cover of the Rolling Stone', and the second video is 'Sylvia's Mother'. Enjoy.

Stand Tall

I remember when I first heard this song on the radio. I thought that it was one of Burton Cumming's best songs. It is a powerful ballad type song, which is apparently about a failed relationship. What the song seems to be saying, is that it is better to stand tall than to fall into some kind of violent state, over a failed relationship.

Here Comes The Sun

This is my favorite version of the song, "Here comes the sun", which was sang by Sandy Farina, in the musical movie, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, which was in theaters, July 1978.
The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, and Paul Nicholas, were some of the main characters, but it also had Alice Cooper, and Aerosmith doing their versions of Beatle's songs.
It wasn't a very good movie though, because they didn't let them speak. The persons in charge of the movie, decided that the Bee Gees, and Peter Frampton, didn't have enough acting experience. I feel that they made the wrong decision with that choice, because most movie goers also like to have some kind of dialogue, in musical movies. Kind of like, when the Grease movie came out, which was totally cool because there was dialogue, as well as singing, so that it didn't end up being a lame movie, like Sgt Pepper's - Bee Gee version, turned out to be.



Did you like this movie or hate it? I was luke warm when I saw it, so I would have to say that I liked it, and hated it, at the same time.

Imagine

The song 'Imagine', sang by John Lennon, is a favorite song of mine because it is a song about living in a peaceful world, without wars, and nothing else to fight about.
It is also a song, which helps to make me feel a calmness inside, whenever I sit down and listen to it.

Sister Golden Hair

When the band 'America' became popular in the mid to late 70's, I liked 4 or 5 of their songs. I felt like I could relate to the song "Sister Golden Hair", because of my blond hair. Keeping in mind that I was 14 going on 15, at the time that this song was being played on the radio.
I hope that their are more people out there, who just plain liked this song, even if it didn't have anything to do with the color of their hair.
