When I was a preteen I remember a song that I heard on the radio, which was kind of cool and gross at the same time.
The song "Timothy" was the song. It was written by Rupert Holmes, with the intention of it getting banned from air play.
This song only made it to #17 on the U.S. Billboard Charts back in 1971. The song was about 3 miners getting trapped in a mine because it collapses and then when they are finally rescued, there are only 2 miners.
When you listen to the song you will find out what happened to the third miner named Timothy.

No Matter What
The band Badfinger came out with some really good songs during the early 70's. The song, 'No Matter What', was one of them.
The tragedy of the suicidal deaths of two of the former band members, who were also the lead vocalists, came as a shock to many, who weren't aware of the troublesome things that those two band members had been experiencing, with the manager of the record labels.
I liked this song because I thought that it was a cool love song, which was a bit rocking for a love song, if that makes any sense.
These are the lyrics, just in case you want to sing along with the video:
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl with you
No matter what you do
I will always be around
Won't you tell me what you found girl, oh girl won't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter where you go
There will always be a place
Can't you see in my face girl, oh girl don't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you

Shooting Star
I wasn't the biggest fan of the band 'Bad Company', but I did like some of their songs.
I liked their song 'Shooting Star' because of the lyrics. It is a song for dreamers. I was once a dreamer.
This video includes the lyrics.

One Tin Soldier
When I was a teenager a movie came out that I thought was very memorable because it was a story about standing up for what you believe in. The movie is called, 'The legend of Billy Jack'.
The song 'One tin soldier' was sang by the band Coven, as a theme song for the Billy Jack movie.
The lyrics are included in the video. Feel free to sing along with the video :) I am betting that you have a very nice singing voice, whether your family thinks so, or not ;)

Indian Reservation
When I first heard this song play on the radio it meant something to me because I am part Indian. Although I was born with strawberry blond hair and blue eyes, my grandmother was born with black hair and dark brown eyes.
I remember learning about Indians and what happened to them and why they are now forced to live on reservations. The song Indian Reservation hits upon the suffering, in which the Indians had to endure, when the white man fought the Indians, for their land.
Paul Revere & the Raiders is an American band that saw enormous U.S. mainstream success in the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s.

Band On The Run
I remember hearing this song and thinking that it was cool sounding, because it combines a couple of different types of music, within the song. It starts out slow and then it ends up to be a pretty rocking song. Although, I do need to tell you that this song is a bit difficult to dance to, which I found out first hand, because while I was in the Army in 1979, my boyfriend and I tried to dance to it, and it ended up turning into a slow to fast, kind of slow dancing. I wasn't particularly disturbed by that though, because I found it to be kind of funny in a way, and I was smiling the whole time, while we were dancing to it.
I chose a live version from 1976, because live performances are always cool to watch.
Be sure to check out the clothing that people are wearing. I remember that my favorite thing to wear was halter tops and cut off jean shorts.

Do You Know What I Mean?
I thought that this song was kind of cool sounding, when I first heard it, even though the lyrics seem to be a bit negative. Keeping in mind that when this song came out, I was not even a teenager yet, it is no surprise that I would like the music part of the song, more than the lyrics, at that time.
I hope that this song will bring back some cool memories for you, back when things seemed a lot less hectic, just because some of us weren't adults yet, when this song started playing on the radio.
This song appeared on the top 10 charts in 1971. As far as I can tell this song was his only top 10 hit, which would mean that this song falls into the one hit wonder category.
